LJMU?s Football Exchange is supporting the England Women?s U19 football squad in the build-up to the 2013 European Championships.
LJMU Lecturer Dr Andrew Hulton will take on the role of Sports Scientist, working closely with the squad?s coaches and medical team to deliver a holistic approach to the support provided to the players.
In contrast to club football where training, match play and recovery run on a weekly cycle the international programme is intermittent, requiring players to be continually monitored when away from the international scene to ensure that the correct training is maintained. The responsibility of the Sport Scientist includes diet and nutrition planning, as well as monitoring wellness, training and recovery.
Dr Hulton's 'call up' to the U19 squad follows previous work with the Women's Northern U15s Elite Performance Camp and the England Women's U15 squad.? Dr Hulton said:
"I am delighted to be working with the England Women's U19 squad at this exciting time for women?s football. We are hopeful of a successful season for the squad."
Naomi Datson, Head of Exercise Science (Women's), Football Association, commented:
"It is fantastic to have Andrew working with our U19 squad.? We have always had a close working relationship with LJMU and the Football Exchange and we are pleased to see this continuing in our preparations for the European Championship."
